Bullying
Statistics
Despite
the fact that studies on bullying are
currently not that extensive, some people have
actually conducted researches on this phenomena. Some results
have debunked myths while others have reinforced speculations
regarding the same. Here are some bullying statistics that will
give you an idea of the real picture.
Bullying
statistics in the past have shown that around 15% of students
get involved in such situations, whether they are the victim or
the bully. These instances have been shown to peak during
middle school and decline during high school. The bad
news is that the cases are quite substantial in numbers
while the good news is that some of the bullies tend to mellow
down as they mature.
The
not-so-good news from bullying statistics is that 60% of those
identified as bullies have been found to have at least one
criminal conviction before they reach 24 years of age. Hence,
while some may have improved, a majority of them carry over
their harmful behaviors to
adulthood.
To cap
it up, here’s one good bit of information from bullying
statistics: schools who have implemented Olweus’ anti-bullying
programs have reported a 50% drop in their reported bullying
cases. This means that this problem is not one without a
solution.
